Special Needs Parenting :: Special Needs Resources (published article) by Carey Nelson Handley
When you first hear your child has "Special Needs", your world changes. Finding the right local resources can be daunting since you may not know the right questions to ask in order to find help. While you may be concerned about helping your child with the day-to-day issues you are facing right now, there are steps you can take now that will benefit your child in the future. In fact, things like the Medicaid Waiver Programs have waiting lists that can be 10-15 years long so it's important to research this early!
To help parents navigate an often complicated new world in the Special Needs community, I wrote a Special Needs Resource Guide for the Fulshear-Katy Community Guide and Directory. Follow this link for helpful hints and resources specifically geared for Special Needs families: https://www.omagdigital.com/display_article.php?id=4053169&view=710645. Hoping this helps answer some of the questions you have and those you didn't know you needed answered.
